Can self-hypnosis really help change limiting beliefs?

I took a seminar on hypnosis a while back but have yet to commit to trying it on myself fully. I have a feeling I may be resisting this sub consciously(go figure!). I know it can work when done with a “client”, especially since there's so much trust involved, but can it really alter deep subconscious misconceptions in oneself? Has anyone had any success hypnotizing yourself to facilitate profound changes in limiting beliefs and life long paradigms?
